so it just occurred to me that we are teaching sword workshops in other cities... which people will need to bring their swords with them to....
so i wanted to make a post about the recommended way to travel with one's sword....
we travel with our swords quite extensively... and are complete freaks about keeping them flat & treating them right... so they stay in good shape & remain balanced
i recommend investing in a hard rifle case... that fits your sword. (you don't need a huge one, just one big enough to hold your weapon/prop)
soft cases are not good for taking on air planes, because of the way they treat your luggage...
and i don't really like them anyway because they do not give even support.. so your sword is more likely to get bent....
always store & transport your sword flat & well supported.. again to make sure it doesn't get bent.. that will throw off the balance.
keep a soft cloth in your case so it is easy to wipe off the oils form you skin, after handling....
so there you have it the answer to you question "how do i take my sword with me to Gothla or spirit of the tribes, so i can take Romka's workshop"
all of this and more will be covered in my up & coming Sword Stylization dvd!
stay tuned & hope to see you soon

Just ordered a metal rifle case for my swords:
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 6:40 AMI LOOOOOVED your workshop at Spirit! One of the things I've enjoyed from you is the sword care tips. Oh how I wish I would have known better years ago:o( My beloved *Xena sword* is in pretty bad shape because it never dawned on me to wipe it down after using it. I didn't even have a proper case or covering for it. So this time with my new *badass* swords I have I want to make sure I take good care of them;o)
I hope 2CU again in Spirit 2009!!

Re: Traveling with swords
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 8:00 AMThat's some fine advice there - thanks! I'd really like a sword-rack for the back of my SUV, but that's not to be, alas. -

Re: Traveling with swords
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 9:29 AMLOL!! That would be soooo coool! But not a good idea here in Orlando.... too hot and too many thieves would be attracted to stealing them. -

Re: Traveling with swords
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 10:51 AMDumb Ass Question from BD Afficianado:
I get it that carrying it on an airplane's NOT a good idea, even with possible exceptions ?
Imagine if you land in a place where you'd perform and your sword got left at the last city you left beforehand?!? (yikes!)
If traveling by Greyhound or Amtrak, you may have a shot, but I'm guessing there's serious stipulations required there, too. (If you're not eating eith it, you can't carry it, another bd'er joked to me...)
Just wondering,

Re: Traveling with swords

I'm pretty sure that Belladonna & I's swords would never make it anywhere NEAR the other side of security. I heard that Asharah almost lost one of her antique miao hairpins that she was WEARING because they though it was too "weapon like".
So....we trust to the goddesses that our swords will make it in one piece. Knock on wood - we've never had a problem. although, it is a concern.
